TECHNIQUE TIPS
The following are a few tips for when you are first learning to climb. The first time people go to a gym and climb, they lose the strength in their arms very quickly and are exhausted after a very short amount of climbing. By reading the tips below, you can make your first climbing experience far more fun.
BEGINNER TIPS
DON'T USE YOUR ARMS!
What's better at holding up your body for long periods of time? Your legs or your arms? When climbing make sure to remember your feet. when you have good footholds and focus on getting yourself up the wall with your legs, you will save your arms and be able to climb much better and for much longer.
BE LAZY
When you are climbing, make sure to keep your arms long and straight. Flexing your arms and clenching yourself against the wall face is going to tire you out very quickly.Â
TAKE SOME TIME TO CHILL
Climbing is a really exciting sport. You are going to want to spend as much time as possible on the wall. If you want to get the most out of your time at the gym, make sure to take breaks between routes to let the pump in your arms go away.
INTERMEDIATE TIPS
-
Focus on keeping you hips as close to the wall as possible. Sticking your butt out requires more arm strength and will make you burn out or lose your grip.
-
Make sure to keep your weight on the tips of your toes rather than the sides. You will be able to stand on smaller edges much more easily.
-
While climbing, start thinking about your breath and making sure to utilize your thumbs for a better grip.
